English IV students just completed their critical essays on Shakespeare¡Ùs Macbeth. The papers have been graded, and they are in the process of analyzing each error made and rewriting perfectly. English 7 and 8 classes continue to study spelling, vocabulary and grammar lessons.  Journalism news sheets will contain some different items, such as student surveys and more academic information from the faculty if possible.  Speech team members have received materials for competition and have made the all-important decision for team t¡Ìshirts colors and logos. The first meet is fast approaching as we begin to feel the pressure mounting! Mrs. Schroeder is doing a wonderful job of choosing pieces with regards to the students¡Ù interests, experience level and personalities. This dedicated group of students practices at 7:00 AM to avoid other scheduling conflicts.

Freshmen in English I are reading Great Expectations by Charles Dickens throughout January; then they will read Romeo and Juliet. Juniors in English III are reading a unit of American short stories written between 1915 -1946; then, it is on to the novel  "To Kill a Mockingbird".  Also, coming this semester is the Nebraska state writing assessment, as well as other designated assessments of state standards. These assessments are a mandate for 4th, 8th and 11th grades, based on the  "No Child Left Behind" law.

Personal Communications I (juniors): are reviewing writing techniques, such as sentence structure, punctuation, capitalization, and other grammatical elements.

Personal Communications II (seniors): after reading the first half of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn before Christmas, they are now completing the second half of the book. When finished, they will watch a video of the book.

Drama: (mixed grade levels) = videos "Drama: Producing a Play" and "Elements of the Theatre"; will use a text book ¡Ì selected chapters ranging from "Physical Preparation" and "Vocal Preparation" through ¡∫Internal and External Acting Principles" to "American Theatre History" and "Theatre Roles and Careers." Also, we will read the play "Our Town" and watch a video of its production.

The junior class is working on prom. "You and me in paradise."
