Parents/Guardians:
As we go forward with eLearning for the foreseeable future, we want to let you know that we have been working diligently on our end to make eLearning a fun and engaging alternative to the daily instruction your child once received. Teachers are planning on a daily basis to meet the needs of all students. The instruction of students during this time will not be possible without teachers, students, and parents all buying in and communicating with each other.
How do we plan to serve students?
As parents, you may have asked yourself the following question. “How are students held accountable for learning and what is the expected time for students to spend learning each day?”
Teachers have been having weekly assignments, projects, and video check-ins in order to assess learning. The primary focus we have directed teachers on are the standards needed for each content area.
For teachers and students, our recommended guidelines for student commitment each day are as follows:
PreK: 30 minutes
Grades K-1: 45 minutes
Grades 2-3: 60 minutes
Grades 4: 90 minutes
Grades 5-12: 30 minutes per teacher (3 hours max in a day)
The guidelines above are meant for any delivery model - packets, eLearning, hybrid, etc.
We understand that everyone is adjusting and many have multiple roles at home. We will give students plenty of grace during this time, but with an expectation that they are completing their assigned work in a timely manner.
If you do not have internet access at home, please call Glenwood at 402-756-3131. They are willing to help out our students at this time. If you do not have a device that connects to the internet, we will provide learning packets to be picked up weekly or bi-weekly with work and projects to complete. (possibly when picking up your grab & go lunch).
How do we plan to serve students with disabilities?
Most students will require a combination of direct instruction in both general and special education settings spread across their day, with time for hands-on activities between instruction and/or incorporated into direct instruction. As a parent or guardian, we want you to know how we intend to serve your children.
• We will provide resources that offer consistency and structure in the new learning environment.
• We will examine each child’s needs/abilities, and give support.
• We will provide specific materials for children as appropriate for making progress on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals, ensuring that students with disabilities have equal access to the same opportunities as their peers.
• We will collaborate between General and Special Education teachers regarding lesson planning and lesson execution.
• Special Education Teachers and Related Service Providers will continue to work on IEP and evaluation paperwork within the required timelines. Special Education Teachers will work with individual teams if IEP meetings are going to be held via phone or in another format such as Zoom or Google Hangouts.
